The best man plays a very important role in the wedding. The gift of the bride and groom exchanging gifts is beginning to fade as many couples who spend a great deal of money on their wedding or honeymoon may decide that there is no need to exchange gifts in addition to the wedding and honeymoon.
Regardless of the activity of choice the common theme in most bachelorette party is to embarrass the bride in a light-hearted and fun way. If you are not comfortable with your wedding planner you are likely to not communicate with them as well as you should. There are plenty of existing vows available and a couple should realize that they are free to use these existing vows and are under no obligation to write their own vows.
If you want to focus on the bride and want a gift to make her feel special you could get her a gift basket of bubble bath and other great smelling lotions and such. The bride and groom then proceed down the aisle together accompanied by both of their parents to symbolize that their union includes the union of both families and not just the bride and the groom. One of the most important responsibilities of the best man is to offer the first toast to the bride and the groom at the reception.
You may choose to write your vows completely on your own to ensure that they are a surprise for your partner but you may also wish to work on your vows with your partner so that the two of you can enjoy the process of writing your vows together. The guests will continue this tradition after each toast requiring the couple to kiss after each toast.
